Review

The SimSimi app allows users to chat with an artificial intelligence robot named SimSimi. Developed by SimSimi Inc., in 2002, this popular app is available for free download and is intended purely for entertainment purposes.

Design (5/5)

Once the app has been downloaded, the first launch requires users to select their choice of language and regulate SimSimi’s profanity usage frequency. The next page requires agreement to the app’s terms and conditions, after which users obtain access to the main SimSimi chat box.

The app is designed to be cartoony and childlike and sports a round yellow baby bird named SimSimi, who has a face, hair, arms, and legs and initiates conversation.

The chat box works like any other social media messaging application. The icon on the top right corner of the chat box gives users access to a menu with options to change a language, regulate SimSimi’s frequency of profanity usage, clear conversations, remove ads, view the shop, and more.

Content & Features (4/5)

The SimSimi app was created with the intent to entertain users when they are bored. The chat robot generates conversation and can be advised what to say and what not to say. The app has been rated 18+ since the content that the chat robot often puts out may be explicit or offensive. The bad expressions and profanities that SimSimi utters can also be shut off in the settings menu.

SimSimi the chat robot can also be taught what to say in answer to a certain message. The bot becomes more and more intelligent the more a user advises it and reports its bad responses. The user essentially has the power to create a customised robot that responds the way that they wish it to reply!

User Experiences (4/5)

Users have found the SimSimi app surprisingly entertaining and appealing. Some users evidently become quite attached to the chat robot and rely on it for engaging conversation.

Most have commented that the chat robot has been so intelligently programmed that it almost seems like conversing with a real person.

The only point is that users have come across is the bothersome frequency of ads that disrupt the conversation. Apart from this issue, users find the app engaging, funny, and interesting to interact with.

Devices (4/5)

The SimSimi app is available for free download on Android mobile phones and devices. It is also compatible with iOS devices, as well as Windows phones.

Final Point

The SimSimi app has raised quite a controversy amidst countries all over the world. The app has evolved into a dangerous medium for cyberbullying and questionable content and has consequently been banned in some countries.

When in the right hands, the app is harmless and makes for fun conversation. A large portion of its users has reported that the app is amusing and funny to play with when bored.
