Fortnite Battle Royale one of the game modes of Fortnite. Epic Games released the free to play mode in late 2017 with the developers being inspired by interest and success of similar battle royale themed games such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Graphics and Sounds - 4/5

Fortnite has consistently had great graphics, and it’s no different on the mobile platform. With its cartoon-like characters and dynamic color palette, it provides for a seamless blend and clarity on the device of choice. The audio is of good quality with no notable difference with those experienced on different platforms. However, to counter any drawbacks that may be due to the device you are using, there is a circular onscreen indicator showing direction and level of sound in the game.

Gameplay - 4.5/5

Fortnite Battle Royale gameplay involves 100 players competing to be the last man (or team, if you play with friends) standing on a vast island. You start by being ferried across the island by a floating bus and must quickly parachute down and land at the desired location. From here, you must scavenge the buildings and the environment for resources such as weapons, building materials, and other useful items.
A storm, at regular intervals, encroaches the map making the field of play smaller and forcing the players to confront each other.
Resources such as the building materials will come in handy as you can find items that will help build walls and ramps and be useful when engaging opponents.

Controls - 3/5

The onscreen controls are adequate. Movement is controlled by a virtual joystick in the far left corner of the screen, while on the right there is selected space for dragging the screen to aim. The apparent disadvantage is the need to tap the screen with the right thumb to fire making it particularly difficult to pick out a target in motion and successfully hit it.

Lasting Appeal - 5/5

The game has a high lasting appeal due to its ability to have varying outcomes each time you play. The different experiences of being the first to be killed or being somewhere among the remaining few—plus the inclusion of building items that can affect your fate in the game—leave you yearning for more.

Difficulty Level

If it’s your first experience with third-person mobile shooters, it might prove a bit difficult to play at first. The inclusion of resources, which when well used can make the difference, doesn’t make it easier for a novice. However, after some time spent in the game plus the added factor of spectating once eliminated, you will get the hang of things. The graphics are simple and elegant, which adds an element of familiarity and comfort while playing the game.

Summary

Fortnite’s unique take on battle royale multiplayer with its inclusion of resources such as building materials makes it very engrossing. Having a 100 player battle brings out the competitiveness in you and makes you want to get better after each loss. It is a rich feeling that not many games can provide.
